National Child Count

Each year, the Montana DeafBlind Project submits an annual National Child Count of Children and Youth who are DeafBlind (Birth-21).  This census represents the most comprehensive registry of children with dual sensory loss.  The registry provides critical information that helps inform the state’s needs and activities provided by state projects.  The census also identifies research and professional development needs, and assists in targeting product development and dissemination.

Individuals from birth through age 21 who are impacted by both vision and hearing loss are eligible for project services. Staff of the Montana DeafBlind Project partner with Outreach Consultants from the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind to provide information, technical assistance, and professional development to families and professionals who provide services to individuals who are DeaBlind.
